Caesar Rivise Cares: Support Center for Child Advocates

Posted on Dec 1, 2022 in Blog

Leah George has always been passionate about advocating for those in need of a voice in the legal system.  That is why, upon joining Caesar Rivise, PC as an associate attorney earlier this year, Leah decided to complete the necessary training to become a volunteer Child Advocate with the Support Center for Child Advocates here in Philadelphia.

The Support Center for Child Advocates is an organization that provides pro bono legal representation to children in Philadelphia County who have experienced abuse and neglect, often at the hands of parents, caregivers and close relatives.  Many of the children who the Support Center represents wind up in the Philadelphia child welfare system due to circumstances beyond their control, and the volunteer Child Advocates at the Support Center work to get them out of the system by addressing and improving the circumstances that caused them to be brought in.

The attorneys who volunteer with the Support Center, often referred to as Child Advocates, advocate for their young clients both inside and outside the courtroom by representing them in a variety of hearings in family and criminal court and working with educators, healthcare professionals and social workers to make sure the children have access to suitable education, medical care and social services.

Leah is currently representing her first of what she hopes will be many child clients as a Child Advocate and appreciates that her role allows her to put her litigation experience and love of law to good use by helping children in need.  While the work is not always easy, she embraces the unique challenges that come with representing children, some of the most vulnerable members of our community.  Through her work as a Child Advocate, Leah hopes that she can make a difference in her young clients’ lives by furthering the Support Center’s mission of securing safety, justice, well-being and a permanent, nurturing environment for every child.

If you have questions for Leah about her experience as a Child Advocate or are interested in volunteering with the Support Center, please feel free to reach out to her directly at Lgeorge@crbcp.com.
